Why are Agricamper stopovers free?

Why don’t Agricamper hosts charge for overnight stays?

Agricamper stopovers are free because the economic model is based on trust and mutual respect. Hosts offer a 24-hour stopover free of charge and are not obliged to provide services such as toilets, showers or electricity.

In return, travellers can support the farm or business by buying local products on site instead of paying a classic pitch fee. Rather than spending money on a pitch, you can treat yourself to good food and local specialities to enjoy during your trip.

How do Agricamper hosts earn money?

Most Agricamper hosts are farmers, winegrowers or small rural businesses who rely on the sale of their products (wine, cheese, oil, fruit, vegetables, jams, honey, etc.) to make the stopover sustainable for them.

When you buy directly from the host, you are thanking them for the time they dedicate to welcoming you, for offering a safe, quiet place to stay and for opening their farm to travellers, while also helping to keep small farms alive and supporting short supply chains.

Am I obliged to buy something?

There is no legal obligation to buy, and no one will force you to purchase anything. But the spirit of Agricamper is very different from a free car park where you arrive, sleep, say nothing and leave without any interaction.

If every traveller behaved like that, hosts would simply stop welcoming motorhomes. A small purchase, a tasting, a breakfast basket, a bottle of wine or some local products is often enough to say thank you in a concrete way.

What is the right attitude as an Agricamper traveller?

As an Agricamper guest, the minimum is to greet the host, show respect for the place and, whenever possible, support them with a purchase. Even a modest basket helps.

Travellers who systematically stay for free, do not say hello and never buy anything go against the spirit of Agricamper and risk making hosts less willing to welcome the wider community of respectful motorhome users in the future.

What if I really can’t buy anything?

If, on a particular trip, you truly cannot buy anything, we ask you to keep this an exception and not a habit. In the Agricamper spirit, supporting your host with a purchase for you, your family or your friends should be the norm, not the exception.

You can also share your experience in the app by leaving a review and a comment, which helps other travellers discover respectful hosts and gives the farm more visibility. However, this does not replace the impact of buying local products, which remains the most concrete way to thank your host and keep free stopovers sustainable.

By choosing to buy from your host and to spend in the surrounding area on food, fuel, small shops and local activities, you help keep these rural regions alive and support the small businesses that make them unique.

The goal is simple: thanks to fair‑play travellers who say thank you by buying local products as well as by leaving kind words, hosts are happy to keep welcoming motorhomes for free, and everyone wins in the long term.
